Mr. Marion Kenneth Bennett, age 70 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, November 16, 2009 at his residence following several years of declining health. He was born in Gordon County on May 7, 1939, son of the late Marion Dennis and Bertha Goss Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Edith Kirby Bennett, and a daughter, Lynn Bennett Purdy.
Mr. Bennett was retired from the Georgia Tech Maintenance Department in Atlanta, and had lived in Atlanta for 42 years prior to moving back to Calhoun. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include three adopted sons, Shaun King Bennett of Atlanta, Michael King Bennett of Michigan, and Daniel Purdy Bennett of Calhoun; four brothers, J.R. Bennett of Plainville, and Doyle Bennett, Ted Bennett, and Jimmy Bennett, all of Calhoun; four sisters, Carolyn Bennett Hamrick of Marietta, Janice Bennett Hancock of Fairburn, and Catherine Bennett Brookshire and Joyce Bennett Silvers, both of Calhoun; a sister-in-law, Flora Nell Ray; and brothers-in-law, J.R. Kirby and Bill Wilson, all of Calhoun. Two granddaughters, Christy Gailey Lunsford and Lisa Gailey; and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Marion Kenneth Bennett will be conducted Wednesday, November 18 at 2:00pm from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday from 4:00pm until 9:00pm.
