Ms. Mary Charlene Smith, age 68 of Calhoun, died Sunday, September 01, 2013 at Gordon Hospital following three years of declining health. She was born in Dalton, GA on April 7, 1945, daughter of the late Homer Woodrow Smith and the late Ethel Lee Fortner Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Laverne; and a sister and brother-in-law, Johnnie Will and Jack Sellers.

Mary was a veteran, serving her country in the US Marine Corps, and was employed with Southern Railways for 31 years.

Survivors include three brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer and Ruthie Smith of Rome, James and Evealine Smith of Marietta, and Martin and Patti Smith of Woodstock; two sisters, JoAnn Smith of Gainesville, and Judy L. Nix of Calhoun; and special nephews, Connor and Abel Johnson. Several nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.

A memorial service with military honors to celebrate the life of Ms. Mary Charlene Smith will be held Friday, September 6th at 1:00 PM from the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating.
