Mary Louise Payne Barnes

Mrs. Mary Louise Payne Barnes, age 95 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at her home. She was born in Gordon County on April 23, 1921, daughter of the late James Dennis Payne and the late Janie A. Smith Payne. She had lived in Albany, GA for many years before returning to her hometown, Calhoun, two years ago. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John (Johnny) Wayne Barnes in 1990; her step-mother, Clara Victoria Payne in 1984, whom she had considered her mother since the age of nine; a brother, James Vanzant Payne in 1976; a sister, Doris Evelyn Owens in 1980; a sister, Bobbie Ruth Randall in 2000; and a brother, Donald Eugene Payne in 2016.
Mrs. Barnes was a veteran, serving her country in the United States Air Force during WWII.
Survivors include her sister, Patsy Ann Hall, to whom she returned to Gordon County to live with in 2014; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 25th from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, November 26th at 1:00 PM from Crown Hill Cemetery and Mausoleum in Albany, GA. Pallbearers will include Jack Hall, David McBrayer, Joel Brock, and Jack Sanford.
