Mary Margerita Starnes

Mrs. Mary Smallwood Starnes, 66, of Calhoun died at her home on Saturday, January 31, 2015. She was born in Fayetteville, Georgia on June 18, 1948, daughter of the late Henry Smallwood and Alice Turner Smallwood.

Mary, or "Granny" as she was known by her many friends, was employed by Big John's Treat Shop. She made everyone happy that she met, and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She leaves behind her husband, Ricky Starnes; a son, Ricky Starnes, Jr. of Calhoun; daughters, Sue Bishop of Marietta, Anita Gilley and her husband Pat of Kennesaw, Tonya Heath and her husband Daniel of Jasper, Penny Woolums of Calhoun, and Tiffany Spears of Calhoun; a brother and sister-in-law, Lee Roy and Margaret Smallwood of Villa Rica; and sisters, Barbara Keys of Jonesboro, Mae Hansard and her husband Charles of Jackson, Helen Davis and her husband Rance of Fayetteville, and Pauline Martin of Griffin. Seventeen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of friends, co-workers, and other relatives also survive.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Mary Smallwood Starnes will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Norris Sexton officiating. Interment will follow at Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Pallbearers serving are Ricky Starnes, Jr., Gerald Adams, Brandon Whitman, Donnie Self, Govanni Sicairos, Austin Spears, and Patrick Gilley.

The Starnes family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 2nd and Tuesday, February 3rd from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Tapestry Hospice for their care and compassion for Mary.
