Mrs. Mary McCoubrey VanGoosen, age 95 of Calhoun, died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at her daughter's home. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 30, 1920, daughter of the late Ray and Rose Cronk McCoubrey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John VanGoosen in 2008; brothers, Roy McCoubrey and Dennis McCoubrey; son-in-law, Huel Thompson; and a cousin who was like a brother, Edward Wehr.
Mrs. VanGoosen had been employed as manager in lunchrooms at Belwood, Ashworth, and Gordon Central High School, where she retired. She was a volunteer at Gordon Hospital, and was a member of the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Beth Thompson of Adairsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Trish VanGoosen of Calhoun, and J.D. (Dan) and Annett VanGoosen of Mt. Airy, GA; grandchildren, Michele (Daniel) Hughes, Shawn (Robin) Kenevan, Chad Kenevan, Tom (Tracy) Kenevan, Allison VanGoosen, and Jonathon VanGoosen; step-granddaughters, Sara Roth, Amy Roth, and Dana (Chester) Betti; great-grandchildren, Samuel Hughes, Melissa Seanea, Ava, Kayla, Brandon, Colin, Ella, and Greyson Kenevan; step-great-grandchildren, Leo and Gwenie Betti; and great-great grandchildren, Zoey Schuman and Jackson VanGoosen.
The family would like to thank Pruitt Hospice for their extra care and compassion for Mrs. VanGoosen.
A memorial service to honor the life of Mrs. Mary McCoubrey VanGoosen will be held Saturday, November 14th at 4:00 PM from the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church.
