Mrs. Mattie S. Dodd, age 96 of Calhoun, passed away Friday, November 6, 2009 following a brief illness. Mrs. Dodd was born on February 28, 1913 in Gordon County, daughter of the late John H. Silvers and Vista Carver Silvers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mac Dodd, and by sisters, Ruby Silvers Bowen, Pearl Silvers Weaver, Ella Silvers Hales, Tot Silvers Stanfield, and Pauline Silvers; and brothers, Homer Silvers, Wm. Cicero Silvers, James Silvers and Roy Silvers. She was retired from the textile industry and a member of Damascus Baptist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Billy Silvers and his wife Gladys, and Jack Silvers and his wife Eleanor, all of Calhoun. She is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews, and a multitude of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie S. Dodd will be conducted Sunday at 3:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Bill Collins and Rev. Albert Field officiating. Music will be arranged by Roy and Gina Silvers Mears, and Pat Martin. Active pallbearers serving will include Wayne Bowen, Gene Bowen, Jerry Bowen, Sterling Silvers, Adrian Bunch, Bret Mears, and Charles Weaver. Honorary pallbearers are David Descalzo, Keith Stanfield, Ryan Holden, and Donald Bowen. Active and honorary pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home Sunday at 2:15pm. Interment will follow the service in the Fain Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday during the hours of 4:00pm and 9:00pm.
