Maurice Gravitt

Mr. Maurice "Pop" Gravitt, age 82 of Dews Pond Road, died early Saturday at his residence following eight months declining health.

Mr. Gravitt was a lifelong resident of Gordon County, born January 13, 1926, son of the late O.D. and Beatrice Baker Gravitt. He was the owner and operator of Summertree Golf Course and was an avid golfer himself. Mr. Gravitt was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Lee Sexton Gravitt in 2005 and by a son, Ken Gravitt on January 10, 2008. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1942 until 1945. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Mr. Gravitt is survived by one daughter, Patrice Gravitt Barwick and her husband Neal of Calhoun, and one son, Derek Gravitt and his wife Chanda of Calhoun. One brother, Lee Dell Gravitt of Chatsworth, Georgia, along with nine grandchildren, one great grandchild and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Maurice Gravitt will be conducted graveside at 1:00 PM Monday from Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. James Braddy, Rev. Woody Lee and Rev. Randy Gravitt will officiate. Pallbearers serving will include Ryan Gravitt, Derek Gravitt, Jr., Christopher Gravitt, Matt Gravitt, Alan Hendrix, Jared Barwick, Russell Sexton and Larry Gravitt. Summertree golfers will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund in Mr. Gravitt's memory.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, who is in charge of directing the funeral services for Mr. Maurice "Pop" Gravitt, of Calhoun.
