Mr. Melvin Eugene Buttrum, age 79 of Fairmount, died Friday, July 23, 2010 at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Buttrum was born in Rome, Georgia on January 19, 1931, son of the late Marvin Buttrum and Thelma Romine Buttrum. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After being discharged from the military, he was employed by Borden Foods in Atlanta until his retirement, and was employed by the K-Mart Corporation warehouse in Forest Park, GA in the maintenance division. He was preceded in death by a brother, Buford Buttrum, and by a sister-in-law, Barbara Buttrum.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail McClure and her husband Mitchell of Culleoka, TN, and Tammy Pharr and her husband Johnny of Stockbridge, GA; two brothers, R.B. Buttrum and his wife Sissy of Calhoun, and Howard Buttrum of Tampa, FL; a sister, Mildred Wyatt of Fairmount; three grandchildren, Michael McClure, J.J. Pharr and Daniel Pharr; three great grandchildren, Ashley Pharr, Lindsey Pharr and Johnny Pharr Jr.; and a special friend, Mary Childers. Four special nieces and nephews, Melvin Nicholson, Tim Nicholson, Pat Smith and Deb Walraven, and a host of other relatives also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Eugene Buttrum will be held on Monday July 26th at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery near Rydal with military honors. Pallbearers serving include Mitchell and Michael McClure, J.J. and Daniel Pharr, Melvin and Timmy Nicholson, Johnny Pharr, and Kolby Nicholson. Honorary pallbearers serving include Eric Longino, Dave Pinter and Dale Pinter.
The Buttrum family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed and the guestbook signed at www.maxbrannonandsons.com.
