Mr. Melvin Lee Farmer, age 85 of Fairmount, GA died Monday, July 21, 2014 at his residence following several years of declining health. He was born in Decatur, TN on September 11, 1928, son of the late William C. and Dora Mae Hickman Farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Marlon Farmer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman and Donia Farmer, George and Mary Lee Farmer, Jack and Lola Farmer, and a brother, William Farmer, all of Decatur, TN; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Clyde Craig of Fairmount.

Mr. Farmer was retired from Harbison/Walker. He was a member of Hall Memorial Baptist Church.

He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Jane Gill Farmer; a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Michael and Donna Farmer of Fairmount; a daughter and son-in-law, Marian and Jerry Marshall of Hazel Greene, Alabama; a sister-in-law, Ann Farmer of Decatur, TN; a brother-in-law, Ira Kimbrell; six grandchildren, Buffy Marshall, Israel Marshall, Gabriel Marshall, Michael Farmer II, Cameron Farmer, and Brittany Ullman; and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, Mittie Kelley and Roy Granger.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Melvin Lee Farmer will be held Friday, July 25th at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev Michael Farmer officiating. Interment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will include Michael Ullman, Michael Farmer II, Israel Marshall, Jerry Marshall, Chris Frazier, and Cameron Farmer. Melvin Kimbrell will serve as honorary pallbearer.

The Farmer family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
