Mrs. Mettie Velena Kay, age 86 of Fairmount, passed away Thursday morning, September 4, 2008 at her residence following a brief illness.
Mrs. Kay was born on December 6, 1921 in Pickens County, Georgia, daughter of the late Samuel Kelley and Sara Young Kelley. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Kay is survived by her husband, Tommy Kay; a nephew, John Addy and his wife Faye, of the Concord Community; a sister-in-law, Mittie Kelley; a niece, Susie Grizzle and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mettie Velena Kay will be conducted Saturday, September 6 at 11:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Freeman Hamrick officiating. Singing will be arranged by Tara Smith, Wesley Grizzle, and Lisa and Drew Kirby. Pallbearers serving will include Darrell Grizzle, Wesley Grizzle, Mike Farmer, Elbert Jackson and Michael Johnson. Interment will follow the service in the family lot of the Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Friday evening during the hours of 5:30pm and 9:00pm.
