Obituary

Michael Lawrence Wright,73, of Calhoun, GA, died on August 5, 2020, at Redmond Regional Medical Center. He was born May 27, 1947, son of the late Roy L. Wright and Floy May Jones Wright. His brother-in-law, Denny Maxwell also preceded him in death. Michael was a Christian and a member of Heritage Baptist Church. He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation as the Assistant Engineer Liaison after 32 years of service. He then spent ten years as the area engineer in Gordon, Whitfield, and Bartow Counties for Moreland Altobili. He proudly served his nation in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Michael was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Masons, and the American Legion. His family and friends will remember his talent as a world-class chef.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of nearly fifty years, Shirley Owens Wright; his children, Chantel Taylor and her husband, Rob, Staci Hill and her husband, Kenny, Burt Wright and his wife, Darlene, and Amanda Ruddell and her husband, Brian; his grandchildren, Tyler Hill, Kristen Wright, Abby Wright, Owen Ruddell, Terran Hill, Megan Wright, Bonnie Wright, Elle Taylor, Davis Ruddell, and Kellan Taylor; his sister, Jeanne Maxwell; his brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Louise Wright and their son, Richie Wright, who was a special nephew; nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow the visitation on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. from Heritage Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service at Chandler Cemetery. Rev. Shane Parrot will officiate. Music for the funeral will be arranged by Darlene, Megan, and Abby Wright. Pallbearers are Tyler Hill, Owen Ruddell, Brett Wright, Rob Taylor, Brian Ruddell, and Kenny Hill. His fellow golfers, members of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, and the Masons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Michael Wright to Heritage Baptist Church, 345 Curtis Parkway, Calhoun, Georgia, 30701.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, masks are requested for those attending. In addition, CDC guidelines for social distancing will be practiced. For those unable to attend, the service will be available on the Facebook page of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
