Michael O’Neal Tenney, 62, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 11.
Mike was born in Warren, Ohio, July 5, 1962, to Floyd and Betty Tenney, and was an avid Cleveland sports, and Ohio State University fan.
Serving as sports editor at the Calhoun Times at the time of his death, Mike worked nearly his entire adult life in the newspaper business at various papers in Ohio and Texas, including high school, college, and professional sports coverage beginning in the 1970s.
Mike was widely respected throughout the local sports and newspaper communities, and loved featuring local athletes and building relationships with their coaches.
In addition to his parents, Mike is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Chris Jeffery; niece and nephews, Ryan Corn, Gage Soulios, and Bailey Jeffery; great-niece and nephews, Sterling Corn, Hoyt Vines, Sawyer Flick, Emerson Jent, and Ily Corn. Aunts, uncles, and other relatives also survive.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m., at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Resaca, with Rev. Ricky Silvers officiating, and Ryan Corn, Gage Soulios, Justin Flick, Carter Ferguson, Chris Jeffery, and Jason Hudson serving as honorary pallbearers.
