Mollie Mae Chastain

Mrs. Mollie Mae Chastain, age 89 of Fairmount, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Gordon Hospital following two weeks of declining health. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Monroe Thurston Chastain; a daughter, Doris Marie Lee; two brothers, Frank Craig and Roy Craig; a brother-in-law, Vester Chastain; and a sister-in-law, Opal Craig.

Mrs. Chastain was a native of Gordon County, and had retired from Shaw Industries.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Linda Chastain of Fairmount, Boyd and Glendal Chastain of Calhoun, and Daniel and Tammy Chastain of Fairmount; three daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and James Fowler of Fairmount, Patsy and Tony Parker of Calhoun, and Willine and Butch Young of Fairmount; a sister, Estelle Chastain of Calhoun; a son-in-law, Roland Lee of Calhoun; and a sister-in-law, Naomi Craig of Fairmount. Nineteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, eighteen great-great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mollie Mae Chastain will be conducted Thursday, January 13th at 2:00pm from the Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church, with Rev. Harold Owens and Rev. William Cline officiating. Mrs. Chastain's body will lie in state at the church Thursday from 1:00pm until the funeral hour of 2:00pm. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers include Jason Chastain, Ellis Payne, Michael Payne, Gregory Young, Ricky Pierce, Randy Pierce, Rodney Pierce, and Richie Pierce. Music will be arranged by Sally Jones.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home beginning Tuesday after 5:00pm, weather permitting, and will continue Wednesday after 5:00pm.
