Mr. Moody Jones, 84, of the New Town Community, Calhoun, died on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 following several months of declining health. Moody was born in Oconee County, Georgia on May 9, 1932. He was the son of the late Buster and Eldona Allgood Jones. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Jones, and by his infant sister, Betty Lou Jones. Moody was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and was a member of Oothcalooga Lodge #154 F&AM.
Moody loved his family and spending time with them. He enjoyed being outdoors, tending to his animals, and having friends come by as they shared old stories. He enjoyed the many hours he spent on his tractor, and he loved listening to classic Bluegrass and Bluegrass gospel music.
Survivors include his wife of more than 61 years, Mary Timms Jones; his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Bonnie Jones, of Calhoun; his daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Scott Herod, of Adairsville, and Jennifer and Lonie Bishop, of Calhoun; his grandchildren, Matthew Herod, Seth Herod, Ryan Bishop, Rod Bishop, Rhett Bishop, Ashley Herod, and Amanda Newell; his great-grandchildren, Ayden Herod, Emma Herod, Amelia White, and Trent Stein; his brothers-in-law and their wives, David and Linda Timms, Aaron and Carlotta Timms, and Charlie Burton; his sisters-in-law and their husbands, Hazel and Eddie Burnette, and Margie and Kenneth Dutton; his aunt, Jane Smith; and his uncle, Rembert Shope.
The Jones family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2016 at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, October 8, at 2:00 p.m. from College Street Church of God. Pastor Dewayne Smith and Rev. Eddie Brannon will officiate. Burial, with United States Air Force Honors, will follow the service at Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers are Matthew Herod, Seth Herod, Ryan Bishop, Rod Bishop, Rhett Bishop, and Dave Smith.
