Murrell Syble Bowen

January 9, 1930 — April 25, 2016

Mrs. Murrell Syble Bowen, 86 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 following several years of declining health. She was born in Marshall County, AL on January 9, 1930, daughter of the late Harley and Olie Craig Charles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, L.J. Bowen in 1980; a brother, Marvin Charles; and a grandchild, Timothy Silvers in 2002.

Mrs. Bowen was an avid reader, and enjoyed puzzles and playing Bingo at the Senior Center. She was a member of the Rocking Chair Band, and a volunteer for many organizations, including the VFW and American Legion. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and a member of Damascus Baptist Church.

She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Alice Bowen; her daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and David Silvers, all of Calhoun; brothers and sister-in-law, Elford and Robbie Charles, Herbert Charles, and Jerry Charles, all of Calhoun; sisters and brother-in-law, Lynell Silvers of Chatsworth; Mary Lou Arnold of Calhoun; Betty Burns of Calhoun, and Shirley and Jimmy Swofford of Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Frank (Terry) Bowen, Chris (Shelly) Bowen, and Kimberly Casey; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Bowen, Landon Bowen, and Kristen Casey.

Services to honor the life of Mrs. Murrell Syble Bowen will be held Thursday, April 28th at 2:00 PM from Damascus Baptist Church, with Rev. Kenny Sheriff and Rev. Stan Miller officiating. Music will be arranged by Linda Fletcher. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers will include David Charles, Chris Bowen, Frank Bowen, Jacob Bowen, Landon Bowen, and Ralph Charles. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The Bowen family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 27th from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

The family would like to thank special granddaughters, Kimberly Casey and Charity Buchanan; and Hope, Chris, and Andy of Affinis Hospice, for their special care of Mrs. Bowen.
