Nancy Delores Rice

Nancy Delores Rice, 81, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, February 19. Delores was born November 2, 1943, to Homer and Stella Johnson. She married her husband Thomas Rice on December 20, 1959, and was devoted to him until the day he died and beyond. 

The two of them raised, and Delores is survived by three children, Tim Rice (Tina), Tammy Rice, and Tracy Cochran (Eric). They spent their retirement years traveling and watching college football, always cheering first and foremost for the Georgia Bulldogs. Delores loved a sunny beach and a good margarita (lots of salt) with Thomas by her side. Those years were some of their happiest, namely because it was a time filled with grandchildren. They had eight grandchildren, Katie Rice Gifford (Justin), Melissa Rice (Luke Sykora), Ana Rodriguez (Daniel Blankenship), Abigail Williams (Zach), Thomas Gray, Daniel Rice, Cecilia Rodriguez, Cassie Wortendyke (Peter), along with four great-grandchildren. Delores retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company and, in recent years, returned to work with Adventist Hospital in Calhoun, where she enjoyed answering the phone and amazed everyone with her stamina and desire to work and contribute at 80 years of age. It was at “the telephone company” that she made a lifetime best friend, and she and Thomas enjoyed the kind of laughter and fun that others envy with Barbra and Dennis Wells, who were a part of their lives until the very end. Delores was loved and will be missed. 

The family would like to thank Community Hospice for their excellent care and compassion, the staff and residents of Royal Oaks who were kind and supportive, and all who knew and loved Delores and reached out to let her know this in her final days.

 In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services and a private burial will be held.
