Nell Scott Hicks

Mrs. Nell Scott Hicks, lovingly known as Nana, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Gordon Health Care following several years of declining health. Nell was born on August 10, 1921 in Cusetta, GA, daughter of the late John and Mattie Turner Scott. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Kevin Hicks.

Following the death of her parents, she was raised by Ben and Carrie Boatwright and educated in the Dalton Public Schools. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was a LPN, working in several area hospitals and health care facilities during her nursing career. Nell lived in Calhoun her entire adult life, and was married to William Sidney Hicks for 33 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Emily Williams of Rossville, Kay McBrayer and her husband John of Cartersville, and Scottie Clark and her husband Larry of Calhoun; and seven grandchildren, Anna McGuire and her husband Randall, Jeremy Clark of Calhoun, Shane Hatton and his wife Alicia of Jaipur, India, Sanya Hauck and her husband Lewis, Kelli Wilson and her husband Tim of Cartersville, Russell McBrayer and his wife Christy of Calhoun, and Joseph McBrayer of Valdosta. She is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nell Scott Hicks will be conducted Saturday, January 15th at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 2:00pm.
