Nellie Mae Newberry

Mrs. Nellie Mae Newberry, age 100 of Sugar Valley, died Friday, December 16, 2016 at Oak View Nursing Center in Summerville, following several years of declining health. She was born in Cherokee County, AL on August 15, 1916, daughter of the late Berry J. and Pearle Callaway Ray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jason Emory Newberry; a son, Marvin Newberry; brothers, Donald Ray, Harold Ray, and James Ray; and a sister, Minnie Knight.
During her lifetime, Mrs. Newberry had been employed with Muse Carpet, and was retired from Gold Kist. She was a member of Sugar Valley Church of God.
Survivors include her son, Ray Newberry of Summerville; a sister, Jewel Pyle; grandchildren, Timothy Newberry, Freddie Newberry, Randy Newberry, Greg Newberry, Teresa Headrick, Betty Collins, and Daphne Hand; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Travis, Amber, Kyrstin, Dakota, Carrie, Crystal, Chaz Newberry, Alex Newberry, Trit Newberry, Stacie Weldon, and Kim Coats; great-great grandchildren, Emily, Able, Iris, Elizabeth, Anna, Justin Weldon, Chelcy Revette, Kirsten Coats, and Leah Coats; and a great-great-great grandchild, Gabe Revette.
Services to honor the life of Mrs. Nellie Mae Newberry will be held Tuesday, December 20th at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Dwaine Shadix officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Valley Church of God Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 19th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
