Mrs. Nellie Lou Worley Parks, age 92 of Calhoun passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Gordon Healthcare. She was a life-long resident of Gordon County, born on May 14, 1920 to the late Curby Maxwell Worley and the late Annie Lucille Moore Worley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy F. Parks in 1998; two brothers, Charles William Worley in 1942, and Roy Maxwell (Max) Worley in 1996; a sister, Gussie Mae Worley Holland in 1974; three nephews, Wallace Dale Rogers in 1991, David Martin Blackstock in 1994; and Jeffery Worley in 2007; a great-niece Charmin Lynn Worley in 1974; and a great-great nephew, John Kevin Ledford in 1983.
Mrs. Parks was a graduate of Red Bud High School, Class of 1940. She was a homemaker and also worked outside the home with her husband Roy, owning and operating Roy's Drive-In from 1956 until 1960, and on the farm raising chickens and cattle. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include three brothers, Donald Worley and his wife Faye, George Worley, and Winfred Worley and his wife Beverly, all of Calhoun; two sisters, Martha Sue Bearden of Cassville, and Doris Blackstock of Calhoun; a sister-in-law, Ruby Worley of Calhoun; nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Lou Worley Parks will be held Tuesday, September 18th at 4:00pm from the Antioch Baptist Church, with Rev. Stacy Hensley and Rev. Steve Worley officiating. Interment will follow in the Chandler Cemetery, with Rev. Larry Hibberts conducting the committal service. Active pallbearers will include Tim Worley, Steve Worley, Douglas Rogers, Randy Holland, Bryan Blackstock, and Lamar Worley. Honorary pallbearers are Donny Worley, Kenny Hammond, Dwight Rogers, Toby Holland, Michael Holland, Bennie Blackstock, Gary Blackstock, and Brian Pass; and members of Mrs. Park's Sunday School class.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Monday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mrs. Parks' name to the Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund, 2666 Dews Pond Road, Calhoun, GA 30701.
