Nerva Brown Cole

Mrs. Nerva Brown Cole, age 73 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at her residence following several months of declining health. She was born September 27, 1940 to the late Anderson and Mae Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John D. Cole in 2007; a grandson, Brody Cole; a sister, Lucille Boggs; brothers, Ralph Brown, Walter Brown, Herbert Brown, and Jack Brown; and sisters-in-law, Lucille Brown and Roberta Brown.

Nerva was originally from Cumberland, Kentucky, and moved to Calhoun in 1989 where she worked at Super D in downtown Calhoun. Nerva was a very humble and god-loving woman who always put her family before herself, and had enough faith to move mountains. She attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

She leaves behind a daughter, Michelle Gilliam and her husband Mark who was like another son to her; a son, John D. Cole II and his wife Terri, all of Calhoun; three grandchildren who thought their "Granny" was an angel on earth, Brittany Dean and husband Chris, Megan Gilliam, and Haden Cole; two great-grandsons who nicknamed her "Granny Cookie" because of her love for them and making sure they had their cookies, Cole and Easton Dean; and brothers, Willis Brown of Calhoun, and Carlos and Elmer Brown of Cumberland, Kentucky. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom she loved dearly, also survive.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Nerva Brown Cole will be held Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Oesterle officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Eric Huff, Danny Polli, Brad Brown, Carlos Lee Brown, Jack A. Brown, and Mark Waycaster. Honorary pallbearers are employees of Gordon County E-911.

The Cole family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Thursday, January 2nd from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
