Ollie Eugene Barry, 86, of Resaca, Georgia, passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. He was born on January 19, 1939, in Washington, D.C., to the late Rebecca Barry. In 1959, Ollie married Valerie Joan McCarter and to this union were born Cheryl Leigh Barry and Bryan Eugene Barry. Valerie and Bryan preceded him in death.
Ollie worked as an engineer at the National Institutes of Health in Washington DC for many years. He loved carpentry, wood carvings and house painting which he did on the side. Also, Ollie was gifted with a beautiful voice, and he loved to sing in church or other engagements. Many thought he sounded just like Nat King Cole. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, bowling and shooting pool. Even at 86 Ollie could clear a pool table.
To cherish his memories, Ollie is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Dodd (David); Kristy Farewell (Darrel); one brother, Lester Barry (Dorothy) and nieces Lisa, Tina and Donna; grandchildren: Andrea Cherie Greene (James), A’leighsha Chervonne Butler, Zoe Elizabeth Farewell, Sebastian Lavon Farewell; great-grandchildren: Jasmyn Alicia Greene, Jada Greene Garcia, Jordyn Yolanda Greene, Ayden Josiah Greene, Cullen Andreas; one miracle great-great-granddaughter Clover Joy Greene; one beloved Aunt Ruth Mccalvin and nieces Michelle Lopez, Colette Harvin (Freddie), Dawn McCalvin and Leslie Gaines (Ronnie); and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
To honor his wishes, his body was cremated, and a Celebration of Life memorial service for Ollie will be held at a later date in Takoma Park, Maryland.
The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Ollie Eugene Barry.
