Ollie H. Slaughter

Mr. Ollie H. Slaughter, 84 of Calhoun, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017. He was born in Gordon County on September 30, 1932, son of the late William Slaughter and Emma Jones Slaughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife in 2015, Georgia Mae Slaughter; a brother, Jason Newberry and his wife, Nellie; nephews, Marvin Newberry and Ray Newberry; and a brother-in-law, Waymond Gwin.
Mr. Slaughter was a veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. He was a diesel mechanic, operating his own business for many years. He was a member of Way of the Cross Church, where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon. He sang with the Gospel Valley Boys.
Survivors include his sons, Charlie Slaughter and his wife Teresa and Phillip Ellis; daughters, Brenda Earwood and her husband Ellis and Karen Mitchell and Kenneth Logan; a brother, Jim Slaughter; grandchildren, Timothy Slaughter and his wife Amy, April Davis and her husband Rick, Emily Ellis, Alex Ellis, Kayla Mitchell, Alan Earwood, Sharon Lingerfelt, and Ben Earwood; great-grandchildren, Brennan, Emma, Everett, Wesley, Jeremy Earwood, Dakota Moss, and Kaila Shoemaker; great-great grandchildren, Brianna Queen, Hunter Moss, and Justin Moss; nephews, Monty (Diana) Slaughter, Michael Slaughter, and Mitchell Slaughter; a niece, Pam Gwin; and great-nieces, Amber Piper and Saha Piper.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Way of the Cross Church, with Rev. Jimmy Black and Rev. Jerry Green officiating. Burial will follow at Old Sugar Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving are Ellis Earwood, Kenneth Logan, Wesley Pace, Charlie Slaughter, Rick Davis, Sgt. Timothy Slaughter, Terry Green, and Jimmy Black.
The Slaughter family will receive friends on Friday, July 14th at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
