Mrs. Ollie Irene Coggins, better known as "Big Mama", age 92, of the Fidelle Community, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at the Quinton Memorial Health Care in Dalton. She was born in Gordon County on July 29, 1914, daughter of the late Morgan and Bessie Townsend White. She was an active member of Evergreen Baptist Church for 54 years, where she was a Sunday School teacher for the Beginners Class for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Coggins, to whom she was married for 57 years; son-in-law, Chester Manley; daughter-in-law, Shirley Coggins; grandson, Philip Manley; brothers, Richard and Rembert White; and a sister, Marena Coggins.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law; Sue Manley, and Relda and Odas Crook; sons and daughters-in-law; Gether and JoAnn Coggins of Dalton, Lowell and Brenda Coggins of Calhoun, and Morgan and Judy Coggins of Resaca; grandchildren and spouses; Reed Crook, Rhonda Baker, Freda Short, Phyllis Johnson, Ricky and Teresa Crook, Robin and Jerome Silvers, and Dale and Marilyn Coggins all of Resaca; great grandchildren; Cristi Short, Brandi Johnson, Heather and Joseph Crook, Emily Silvers, Brandon and Christopher Coggins, Larry Long and Cory Williams, all of Resaca; sisters; Mae Moss and Francis Taylor; a brother, Frank White, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ollie Irene Coggins will be conducted Friday, June 8 at 4:00pm from the Evergreen Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Gibson, Rev. Johnny Beason, and Rev. Crawford Greeson officiating. Interment will follow in the Fidelle Cemetery. Music will be arranged by the Melody Singers. Active pallbearers will include Larry Quinn, Alan Quinn, Brian Quinn, Denny Phillips, David Gibson, and Garrett Cochran. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home Friday at 3:15pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday after 6:00pm.
