Mrs. Opal Inez Waldrop, age 84 of Sugar Valley, passed away Friday, January 4, 2008 at Gordon Hospital. She was born in Gordon County on October 11, 1923, daughter of the late Marvin and Clara Elders Gallman. Mrs. Waldrop was a retired textile worker, and during her lifetime worked at OJ Mills and King's Textile. She was a member of Curryville Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Farrell Waldrop; a son, Kenneth Gravitt; a daughter, Linda Champion; and a granddaughter, Heather Marie Baldwin.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law; Lee Roy and Patsy Gravitt, and Jerry and Pam Gravitt; two daughters; Bobbie Jean Hart and her husband Kenneth, and Louise Ponder; three brothers, Clarence Gallman, Harold Gallman, and Larry Gallman; and a sister, Jeanette Cochran, all of Calhoun. Fifteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Inez Waldrop will be conducted at 1:00pm Sunday, January 6 from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmie Timms, Rev. Marvin Glass, and Rev. Steven Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in the Gravitt Family Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and will include Terry Patterson, Jason Ponder, Gary Greeson, Nick Gravitt, Heath Gravitt, Eric Gravitt, J.W. Gravitt, and Shane Hambrick. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home Sunday at 12:15pm. Honorary pallbearers will include A.J. Baker, Bob Shirley, Raymond Shirley, Danny Morgan, Joe Cargle, Colter Wheat, Calvin Thomas, Chris Brookshire, Kenneth Hart, Lynn Faulkenberry, and Brian Wright. These are asked to meet at the funeral home Sunday at 12:45pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm.
