Ora Mozelle Foster Gilbert

June 13, 1920 — July 18, 2014

Mrs. Ora Mozelle Foster Gilbert, age 94 of Calhoun, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014 at Gordon Health Care. She was born in Ramhurst, GA on June 13, 1920, daughter of the late Thomas and Nellie Belle Harper Foster. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Hershel Gilbert in 1977; two sons, Clyde Gilbert in 2007, and Charles Gilbert in 2010; a sister, Opal Chamlee and her husband John; and brothers, Kenneth Foster and Fred Foster.

Mrs. Gilbert graduated from Sonoraville High School in 1938. She was the oldest living member of New Town Baptist Church, becoming a member when she was 14.

Survivors include grandsons, Michael and Sheri Gilbert of Pennsylvania, Larry and Sandy Gilbert, Jeffery and Stacie Gilbert, and Brian Gilbert, all of Calhoun; great-grandsons, Matthew Gilbert and Hunter Gilbert of Calhoun, and Christian Gilbert of Denmark; great-granddaughters, Taylor Gilbert, Renae Padgett, and Mackenzie Gilbert, all of Calhoun; and a great-great grandchild, Chloe Rice. Other survivors include a niece, Charmaine Conley; a great-nephew, Garrison Conley; daughters-in-law, Betty Gilbert and Joan Gilbert; and a special caregiver, Nancy Hancock.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ora Mozelle Foster Gilbert will be held Monday, July 21st at 11:00 AM from New Town Baptist Church, with Rev. David Ray and Rev. Walter Hare officiating. Music will be arranged by Nancy and Bobby McFry and the New Town Quartet. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers include Roland Brown, Eddie Watkins, Jeff Rogers, Mike Willett, Anthony Blackstock, and Danny Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers are members of Mrs. Gilberts Sunday School class, and Deacons of New Town Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Sunday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

Mrs. Gilbert had requested flowers be omitted and contributions made in her name to New Town Baptist Church.
