Mr. Otto Richard Timms, age 77 of Shephard Street, Calhoun, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. He was born in Gordon County on February 14, 1932, son of the late Chester Ray Timms and Celia Allen Timms. Mr. Timms worked for Price Floor Covering for 25 years before opening his own company, Timms Flooring, and was a veteran, having served his country in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Resaca Assembly of God.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Berry "Cujo" Timms; and his father-in-law, Hubert Shepherd.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Shepherd Timms; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Stacy Timms, and Tony and Lisa Timms; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and John Hobgood; mother-in-law, Ruth Shepherd; a brother, Lawrence "Lightning" Timms; and a sister-in-law, Diane Garland and her husband Grady, all of Calhoun. Five grandchildren who were the joy of his life, Heather and Brittany Hobgood, and Jesse, Andrew, and Amy Timms; a special niece, Rhonda Banks and her husband Wayne of Calhoun; a special great-nephew, Justin Phipps; and special friends, Leon and Bernice Covington, and Stanly and Teresa Carver also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Otto Richard Timms will be conducted Saturday, April 11th at 4:00pm from the Resaca Assembly of God, with Brother Jim Sailors, Brother Jimmie Timms, and Brother Sammy Allen officiating. Brother Samuel Terry Timms and Brother Allen Melton will conduct the graveside service. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Justin Phipps, Leon Covington, Bill Hensley, Ernest "Cotton" Gentry, Tolbert Gallman, Donald Timms, Gary Timms, and Eddie Timms. These gentlemen are requested to assemble at the Resaca Assembly of God Saturday at 3:30pm. Honorary pallbearers will include Don Godfrey, Billy Brown, Darrell Brown, Allen Ford, Red Robbins, Emory McEntyre, Clyde McEntyre, Bill Price, Allen Price, Hilburn Smith, R.L. Mullinax, James Hall, Lamar Holland, Henry Durham, Roy Rutledge, Jimmy Waddell, Max Dutton, Don Fox, and Charlie Allen. They are requested to meet at the church Saturday at 3:45pm. The family will receive friends at the Resaca Assembly of God Friday evening after 6:00pm.
