Mrs. Pauline Davis Baxter, age 84, a well known resident of Calhoun, died Saturday December 3, 2011 in Gordon Hospital after five years of declining health.
Mrs. Baxter was born in Gordon County on December 17th, 1926, daughter of the late Bill and Kate Beason Davis.
Pauline and her husband J.D. Baxter, along with their sons Brock, Jeffrey and Brian, were well respected farmers in Gordon County and surrounding area. Pauline was the one who kept all the family and employees well fed while they were in the field. She cherished her time spent with her family and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband J.D. Baxter, to whom she was married for 62 years, and a brother, Hughdon Davis. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Mrs. Baxter is survived by three sons, Brock Baxter and his wife Delilah of the Red Bud Community, Jeffrey Baxter and his wife Lori of Cartersville, and Brian Baxter and his wife Vicki of Calhoun; ten grandchildren, Paige Mullinax, Julie Nesbitt, Kate Baxter, Holly Burns, Neil, Jim, Eric, Casey, Andy and Corey Baxter, along with 20 great-grandchildren, and a special friend and caregiver, Karen Kirby.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30p.m. Sunday from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Hibberts and Rev. William Roberts officiating. Interment will follow on Monday at Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Karen Kirby, Juanita Ray, Joy Sullivan, Donnie White, David Gibson, Gary Fuller, Jerry Clements, Phil Roland, Rodney Kelly, James Steele, and the staff of Gordon Health Care, Hall B.
The Baxter family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday after 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be given in memory of Mrs. Baxter to Antioch Baptist Church, 2666 Dews Pond Rd SE, Calhoun, GA 30701.
