Mrs. Janell Goforth, age 82 of Plainville, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Gordon Hospital following several weeks of declining health. She was born in Gordon County on June 18, 1925, daughter of the late James and Minnie Johns Petty. During her lifetime, she was a homemaker, and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years in 1993, H.C. Goforth; two sons, Andrew Neil Goforth and H.C. Goforth, Jr.; two brothers, J.E. Petty and Otis Petty; and three sisters, Lucille Shipman, Dimple Goforth, and Mimiebell Shipman.
Survivors include four sons, Robert Goforth of Calhoun, Randy Goforth and his wife Sheila of Dews Pond, and Charles Goforth and Larry Goforth, both of Plainville; six daughters, Mary Ann Stone of Ranger, Gail Epperson and her husband Tex of Adairsville, Sandra Davis of Resaca, Virginia Broom and her husband Buck of Plainville, Patsy Worley of Resaca, and Karen Harris of Alabama; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Eula Petty of Whitfield County; and three sisters, Janette Johns and her husband Ollie of Resaca, Helen Smith and her husband Fain of Resaca, and Rose May Shipman of Whitfield County. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Janell Goforth will be conducted Saturday, May 3rd at 2:00pm from the Corinth Baptist Church, with Rev. Dino Bishop and Rev. Carlton Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Dewayne Hollingsworth, Obbie Caldwell, Tony Goforth, Jamal Caldwell, Clifford Goforth, and James Goforth. Honorary pallbearers are members of Mrs. Goforth's Sunday School class, Bill Goforth, Buck Broom, and Edgar Stone.
