Mr. Rayburn McDougle, age 66 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Cartersville Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Gordon County on August 15, 1943, son of the late George and Beulah Queen McDougle. During his lifetime, Rayburn had worked in the textile industry, and was presently owner-operator of McDougle Furniture and Appliance. He was a member of Sonora Lodge #221 F & AM.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Hight McDougle; six sons, Scott McDougle, Ricky Chamlee, Mike Chamlee, Mark Chamlee, and Jeremy Brake, all of Calhoun, and Tony Chamlee of Adairsville; a daughter, Sherrie Sellers of Nicklesville; three half-brothers, Billy Joe Carver of Calhoun, and Leman Smith and Gary Smith, both of Adairsville; a half-sister, Lynn Kinsey of Calhoun; and a special friend, Virgil Pierce. Eight grandchildren, Amanda Henderson, Allen McDougle, Ashley Chamlee, Elijah Chamlee, Braylon Brake, Jacob Jasso, Zach Jordan, and Brandi Twilly; and five great-grandchildren, Logan and Skylar Jordan, Leigh McDougle, Jaydon McDougle, and Kayla Twilly.
Funeral services for Mr. Rayburn McDougle will be conducted Wednesday, October 28 at 4:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Hibberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Danny Hight, Mark Chamlee, Tony Chamlee, Robert Smith, Brent Smith, and Willie Pritchett. Honorary pallbearers are Virgil Pierce, Marvin Garner, Bobby Bunch, Buddy Bunch, and Trammel Dooley. These gentlemen are requested to assemble at the funeral home Wednesday at 3:15pm. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
