Mrs. Retha Denney Fox, a lifetime resident of Gordon County, died on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Gordon Hospital. Retha was the daughter of the late Robert Marvin and Bessie Bailey Denney. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Edward Fox, in 1999; her brother, Hoyt Denney; her sisters, Floy Fuquea, Lois Kirby, Grace Denney, and Inez Denney; her nieces and nephews, Lana Fuquea Greeson, Vicki Fuquea Hicks, Kenneth Fuquea, Larry Fuquea, and Denney Kirby. She was a longtime member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and the Sonora Order of the Eastern Star. For many years, Retha was a nurse for Dr. W.D. Hall, Dr. R.D. Walters, and Dr. J.E. Billings.
Retha is survived by Dwight and Susan Fox Gentry; Matthew and Michael Gentry; her nieces and their husbands, Janet and Larry Thomason, Betty Butler, Joan Roach, and Donna and Eddie Couch, Doris Frost, and Deloris Northcutt; her nephews, Gary Fuquea, Bobby Denney, Terry Denney, Paul Denney, Jerry Kirby, and Jerry Denney; many other family members and good friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 12, 2016 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
The funeral service will be conducted on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Rev. Greg Burgner and Rev. Ross Tipps will officiate. Burial will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens. Rev. Eddie Brannon will officiate at the graveside. Pallbearers are Derek Reece, Trent Thomason, Heath Thomason, Matthew Gentry, Michael Gentry, and Branson Fair. Honorary pallbearers are Don and Ruth Gravitt, Ann and Richard Wright, Margaret and Leonard Reece, Ruby Crump, Betty Stewart, and Donna Leamer.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials in her memory be made to The Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 279 Wesley Chapel Church Road, Calhoun, Ga. 30701. Friends may sign the online guest register at www.maxbrannonandsons.com.
