Rev. Bill Gray

March 4, 1928 — December 20, 2015

Rev. William "Bill" Gray, 87 of Calhoun, died Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Gordon Hospital. He was born in Colesburg, WV on March 4, 1928, son of the late Willie and Edna Gray, moving to Georgia at age 2, and raised by foster parents, the late Paul and Maud Pickard. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Copley Gray; and sons, Rev. Douglas Gray, Delbert Gray, Bobby Gray, and Rev. Phillip Gray.

Rev. Gray served his country in the US Navy in the Pacific. He had been a member of Sonoraville Lodge 221 F&AM for more than 50 years. He was a member of Plainview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Rev. George Gray and his wife Samantha of the Sonoraville community; a sister, Pauline Kelly of Calhoun; daughters-in-law, Debbie S. Gray, Debbie F. Gray, and Sheila Gray; a foster sister, Shirley Billingsly of Rome; grandchildren, Aaron Gray, Josh Gray, Jenny Moore, Cora Gray, Charles Gray, David Gray, Anthony Gray, Crystal Sheriff, Zach Gray, Andrew Gray, Chandler Gray, Cole Gray, and Harley Gray; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

Services to honor the life of Rev. William "Bill" Gray will be held Wednesday, December 23rd at 1:00 PM, from Plainview Baptist Church, with Rev. Benny Thomas, Dr. Larry Hibberts, and Rev. Mark Harris officiating. Music will be arranged by James Williams. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic rites and Military honors. Masonic officers will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Turner, Buck Baker, K.O. Cornwell, Eddie Blackburn, Bobby Shaw, Greg Bowen, Ronnie Everett, Willie Hicks, and Jeremy Springfield.

The Gray family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 22nd from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
