Richard Carter

October 20, 1927 — January 23, 2010

Mr. Richard (Hugh) Carter, age 82 of Plainville, passed away Saturday, January 23rd at Calhoun Health Care. He was born in Dozier, Alabama on October 20, 1927, son of the late Noah and Annie Moody Carter. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Garmon Carter. Mr. Carter was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Navy. He was a retired Merchant Seaman, working as a ship steam engineer.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Randy Abbott of Lake Wells, Florida, and Jeanette and Larry Hess of Wesley Chapel, Florida; two step-sons, Roy Workman and his wife Annette of Dalton, and Harold Hughes and his wife Marti of Rome; and a step-daughter, Willene Stephens of Tampa, Florida. Nineteen grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Richard (Hugh) Carter will be conducted Wednesday, January 27th at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Leamon Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Towe's Chapel Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Cliff Workman, Bradley Messer, Cody Messer, Arthur Hughes, Josh Davis, and Mitch White.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
