Rickey Roberts, 66, of Oostanaula, answered the call of his Lord and Savior to come home on Saturday, August 6, 2016. Rickey was known to be a family man. He was a respectful son of Alfred Loranza "Jack" Roberts and Dymple Greeson Roberts; a loving husband to his wife of 47 years, Orvinell Clark Roberts; a proud father of his daughters Tina Roberts Jackson and her husband Jerry Jackson and Tara Roberts Sewell and her husband Sidney Sewell; a nurturing grandfather to his grandsons, Chase Jackson, Cole Jackson, Ethan Sewell and Easton Sewell and his granddaughter Ellie Sewell; a brother to Dennie Roberts and his wife Holly Carpenter Roberts; and a loyal friend to many. He was a lifetime member of the Oostanaula community where he shared his love of gardening and farming with his neighbors. Rickey was a 1968 graduate of Calhoun High School and played trumpet with the "Pride of the Georgia Northlands" Yellow Jacket Marching Band. He was also a founding member of the St. John's, a Band that entertained in the southeast for many years, playing bass and vocals. He spent the first years of his working career as a meat cutter for Colonial Stores/Big Star grocery stores. He was currently self-employed as a poultry and cattle farmer and landlord with Roberts Poultry & Rental Properties, LLC.

He was born on May 15, 1950 in Whitfield County. He had been battling declining health for the last four years. Rickey was of the Baptist faith and member of Meadowdale Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, Rickey leaves behind special aunts: Katherine Pennington-Lewis, Hilda Roberts Worthington, Wanda Roberts Thurmond and her husband Randall, Ouida Roberts, Nancy Pratt, and an uncle Randall Roberts. He is also survived many cousins and other relatives.

The Roberts family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Meadowdale Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Rickey will be held Wednesday, August 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Meadowdale Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Pearson officiating. Music will be arranged by his life-long friend, Travis Stephens. He will lie in state from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. Pallbearers are Carmen Caldwell, Bobby Reeves, Roger Clark, Danny Stephens, Travis Stephens, and Wayne Hester. Honorary pallbearers are Sammy Watkins, Lester Rampey, Greg Weaver, and the Calhoun Fire Department.
