R.L. Fuquea

Mr. Robert Lee (R.L.) Fuquea, age 96 of the Red Bud Community, died Monday, March 18, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in the Pleasant Hill Community in Gordon County on April 28, 1916, son of the late Robert Milton Fuquea and Sally Powell Fuquea, and was preceded in death by a sister, Avanell Fuquea, a brother Ralph Fuquea, and a niece, Phyllis Roberson.

Mr. Fuquea was a well known educator, having taught Physics, Biology and Science at Red Bud School for 27 years. He taught the Farm Training Program at Calhoun Veterans School in Calhoun just after graduating from college. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural Collage in Tifton, GA for two years, and was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. Fuquea was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church, and served as an ordained deacon from 1954 until 2006. He was the chairman of Deacons for 20 years and served as Sunday School Superintendant from 1950 until 1967. He was instrumental in Bethesda Baptist Church progressing from a church with bi-monthly worship services, to having weekly worship services. He organized the Royal Ambassadors Boy's Mission Program and began the van ministry, which is a vital ministry of the church at present.

Mr. Fuquea enjoyed the outdoors and tending his gardens. He had established 25 different varieties of apple trees at his farm.

Survivors include his loving wife, Geneva Coats Fuquea, to whom he was married for 61 years; a nephew, Terry Fuquea of Marietta, GA; three great-nephews; a great niece; and a great-great nephew.

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lee (R.L.) Fuquea will be conducted Tuesday, March 19th at 1:00 PM from Bethesda Baptist Church, with Pastor Wesley Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. The deacons of Bethesda Baptist Church will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Bethesda Men's Sunday School Class, and the Bethesda Baptist Adult and Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends Monday between the hours of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
