Mr. Robert Lawrence (Bob) Curtis, age 75 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Gordon Hospital. He was born in Cortland, New York on May 21, 1935, son of the late Byrd and Beatrice Truman Curtis. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Curtis.
Mr. Curtis had worked in the chemical industry most of his life, and had retired from Dow Chemical. He had served as a volunteer with the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce and Gordon Hospital, and was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church.
He was a veteran, having served his country in the US Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Joyce Burdette Curtis; two daughters, Sheila Dyer and her husband Wayne of Calhoun, and Shelly Ledford of Chatsworth; two step-sons, Wayne Patrick and his wife Susan of Columbus, Georgia, and William Patrick and his wife Shonda of Calhoun; three brothers, Gordon Curtis of Brookfield, New York, James Curtis and his wife Carol of Rochester, New York, and Kenneth Curtis and his wife Karen of Brookfield; a sister-in-law, Freida Curtis; and a special great niece, Tuesdae Anderson. Six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lawrence (Bob) Curtis will be conducted Saturday, June 26th at 2:00pm from the Heritage Baptist Church, with Rev. Brent Davis and Rev. David Ray officiating. Mr. Curtis will lie in state at the Heritage Baptist Church Saturday from 11:00am until the funeral hour of 2:00pm. Interment will follow in the Swamp Creek Cemetery with Pastor Junior Clayton conducting the committal service, and full military honors provided. Active pallbearers will include Wayne Dyer, Justin Patrick, Nolan Patrick, James Knight, Matt Goble, and Travis McGill.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Friday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
