Robert Smith

Mr. Robert J. (Dude) Smith, age 84 of Calhoun, passed away Friday, May 14, 2010 at Gordon Hospital. He was born in Bartow County on July 11, 1925, son of the late Robert L. and Laura Fields Smith. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Frances K. Smith; three brothers, Everett J. Smith, Amuiel Smith, and H.C. Smith; two sisters, Izetta Smith and Lucille Towe; and two brothers-in-law, Harold Johnson and F.A. Johnson.

Mr. Smith enjoyed NASCAR and dirt track racing, baseball, and gospel music. He was an ordained deacon of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Phyllis Rist Smith; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Patricia Smith of Adairsville, and Jimmy and Teresa Smith of Calhoun; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Michael Hensley of Resaca; step-sons, Robert Bingham of Ava, Missouri, and Leon Bingham of Mansfield, Missouri; a step-daughter, Robin Navratil of Missouri; and two sisters, Dolly Johnson of Calhoun, and Vera Johnson of Atlanta. Grandchildren surviving include Stacey and Kim Stone, David Stone, Robbie Stone, Lori and Wyndell Godsey, Amy and Scott Nix, Russell and Danielle Smith, and Crystal and Damon Riley. Twelve great-grandchildren, a special friend, Kenneth Hand, and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Robert J. (Dude) Smith will be conducted Monday, May 17th at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. James Cobb and Rev. Leman Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will include Kenneth Hand, Steve Benton, Russell Smith, Josh Stone, Eric Stone, and Zack Stone.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
