Roger Johns

Mr. Roger Johns, 61, of the Plainville Community, departed this life on Friday, September 27th at Atrium Health Floyd with his family at his bedside.

Roger was born in Rome, Georgia, on March 19, 1963, the son of the late Jimmy Johns Sr. and Frances Freeman Johns. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Johns Jr. and Bob Johns.

He grew up in Gordon County, attended Sonoraville  School, and worked for Mohawk Industries for over 20 years as a supervisor and dispatcher before retiring.

He enjoyed helping with the local food bank and the elderly meal program.  He spent much of his time outdoors, working with his tractor.

Survivors include his wife, Diann Welchel Johns, to whom he was married for 42 years; his daughter, April Johns Hudson, and her husband Jason; his son, Matthew Johns and his wife Jennifer; five grandchildren, Taylor and Greyson Hudson, Ryan, Kyle, and Cadence Johns; sister, Ann Alford; brothers and sisters in law, Ronald and Mary Johns, and Donald and Kathy Johns, Darlene Johns  and Linda Johns: several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

The funeral service will be conducted on Monday, September 30th, at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Minister John White officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot at Scott Cemetery in Plainville.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 29th, between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home.
