Mr. Roy E. Covington, age 66, of Tifton, formerly of Whitfield and Gordon County, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Covington was born in Gordon County, GA, on March 5, 1947, son of the late Hautis Roy "Hoyt" Covington and Lottie Marion Wilson Covington. He had resided in Tifton, GA., for the past nine years moving there from Dalton, GA. Mr. Covington was a drafter and engineer, retiring from Shaw Industries. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church. Mr. Covington was an avid fan of dirt track racing and enjoyed traveling, antique automobiles and race cars. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Donald Dixon.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Ann Reeves Covington of Tifton, sons, Scott Covington of Rome and Jeremy Covington of Chattanooga, TN; one daughter, Cammie Causey of Adairsville, GA. One grandchild, Olivia Covington of Chattanooga, TN. Sisters, Bobbie Dixon of Dalton and Betty Hackel and her husband Tim of Mableton; niece, Kimberly Isenhower of Dalton; great niece, Amber Stephens of Dalton and a special aunt, Carrie Gallman of Calhoun, GA.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 20th at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Junior Clayton officiating with interment to follow in Fain Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home between the hours of 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM Sunday May 19th.
