Obituary
Roy Wayne Henderson, 78, of Resaca, GA died Wednesday, December 9, 2020. He was born on July 16, 1942, in Valley Station, KY to the late Huel Henderson and Pansy Hatfield Henderson. He was born again at the young age of 13. He served his country in the U.S. Air force from July 1959 to August 1964, and then he was called to preach at the age of 30. He pastored Bethlehem Baptist Church in Pineville, Ky, while in Clear Creek Baptist College. He also pastored Bethel Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, Ky, for 11 years and Tabernacle Baptist Church in Dalton, Ga, for 23 years. Bro. Henderson spent 34 years in evangelism, traveling across America telling people how to grow closer to the God he loved. He was currently a member of Concord Baptist Church, where he was given an honorary doctorate by the late Dr.Sammy Allen.
He was raised in a frugal manner and learned early on to love the "well used" and seemingly useless items in life. He often said, "God can take a crooked stick and draw a straight line." Over the course of his abundant life, he collected quite a few crooked sticks. The three-legged dog he loved, the vehicles he drove, the rusty tools he found on the side of the highway, the people who had been rejected, and the children who were in trouble. He extended his hand, sent up prayers, and offered Scriptural counsel.
He was not a respecter of persons, if he disagreed with you he would let you know. Yet, he made the wealthy feel comfortable, the pauper feel respectable and the broken feel welcome.
He was a friend to all and gave all to his friends. His favorite morsel of wisdom,
"If you cant pray, you cant do anything.
But If you can pray, you can do everything."
And he proved it to be so over and over.
He left his sweetheart of 60 years, Frances (Totsie) Henderson; his daughters, Deborah (Armin) Martin, Leslie (Travis) Trumbull, Erin (Paul) Dove and Lori Henderson; brothers, Wade Henderson, Ron (Jane) Henderson; several brother and sister-in-law; grandchildren, Jared (Kayilee) Martin, Emily Martin, Andrew Martin, Isaiah Martin, Nathan (Liz) Trumbull, Natalie Trumbull, Aaron (AnnaRose) Trumbull, Micah (Libby) Trumbull, Anna Trumbull, Riley (Jessica) DeLange, Sarah (Heath) Stockburger, Adam (Michaela) DeLange, Haleigh Crabtree, Heidi (Daniel) Whitfield, Adrianna Dove, Paul Dove IV, Grady Dove, and Levi (Michaela) Daniel; great-grandchildren, Braxton Layne, Branson Trumbull, Jeriah and Rylan Delange; Jonathan, Chloe, Lillianne and Felicity Delange; Serenity, Alexis, and Mason Whitfield; Jaysen and Karleigh Crabtree.
