Ruth Burnette Massengill

Mrs. Ruth Burnette Massengill, 89 of Plainville, GA died Monday, June 29, 2015 at Winthrop Health Care in Rome. She was born in Gordon County on April 26, 1926, daughter of the late Winfield and Minnie Burnette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Massengill in 1985.

Mrs. Massengill was a member of Meadowdale Baptist Church and the Eunice Jones Sunday school class.

She leaves behind her sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Rhonda Massengill of Calhoun, and Randy and Susan Massengill of Lawrenceville; her daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Doug Chastain of Calhoun; grandchildren, Steven Massengill, Jessica Curtis, Tim Chastain, and Brooke Chastain; and great-grandchildren, Brodie and Brynn Massengill, and Tyler, Haley, Tanner, and Chloe Curtis.

Services to honor the life of Mrs. Ruth Burnette Massengill will be held Thursday, July 2nd at 2:00 PM from Meadowdale Baptist Church, with Dr. Steven Pearson and Dr. Garry Tate officiating. Mrs. Massengill's body will lie in state at the church from 1:30 PM until the service hour. Music will be arranged by Travis Stephens, Angie Childers, and Ronnie Van Dyke. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Jerry Hufstetler, Ed Boswell, Charlie Dempsey, David Knight, Ronald Pearson, and Russell Bennett. Honorary pallbearers are Dan Autry, Jack Bibb, James Rickett, Troy Dutton, Ron Bentley, Rodney Babb, Richard Webster, Bryan Roberts, and Robert Kinsey.

The Massengill family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

The family would like to acknowledge Gordon County 911 and the Gordon County Sheriff's office for their compassion and care for Mrs. Massengill.
