Ruth Irene Baker

Mrs. Ruth Irene Baker, age 90 of Sugar Valley, passed away Monday, October 4, 2010 at Gordon Health Care Center following an extended illness.

She was born on December 29, 1919 in Gordon County, daughter of the late James Robert Seritt and Elizabeth Enlow Seritt. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Carl Baker; a daughter, Margie Baker Long; a son-in-law, Ernest "Butch" Bryant; three brothers, Charles Hudson Seritt, Calvin "Tab" Seritt, and Dewitt Seritt; and five sisters, Celia Cochran, Dorothy Brumlow, Aliene Seritt, Hazel Wester and Robbie Brown.

Mrs. Baker enjoyed working with her flowers as well as having a vegetable garden, and loved everyone. She was a member of the Sugar Valley Church of God.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Baker Bryant and Retha Baker Smith, both of Calhoun; a son, Charles Baker and his wife Charlotte of Calhoun; and a brother, Jack Seritt of Dalton. Ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Irene Baker will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Dwaine Shadix and Brother Lamar Hand officiating. Pallbearers serving will include Wayne Brown, Scotty Seritt, Gerald White, Jerry Holsomback, Jack McGaskey and Tommy Brumlow. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery with Rev. Steve Baker conducting the committal service. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday after 5:00pm.
