Mrs. Ruth Lewis Burks, age 97 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday evening, March 25, 2009 at Gordon Health Care following a brief illness.
She was born on March 20, 1912 in Carroll County, daughter of the late Robert James Lewis and Eula Maude Phillips Lewis. During her lifetime she was employed in the textile industry, and was a member of New Town Baptist Church.
Mrs. Burks is survived by a daughter, Peggy McEntire and her husband, Jack of Calhoun; two sisters, Evelyn Rittenberry of Lexington, Kentucky and Kathryn Brock of Marietta; four grandchildren, Carey McEntire, Amy Stocker, Wanda Johnston and Tina Bowden; great grandchildren, Josh McEntire, Geoffery Fletcher, Donna Pope, Tyler McEntire and Jack Fletcher; and two great great grandchildren, Taylor Boles and Victoria Wills. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Lewis Burks will be conducted Saturday at 3:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. John Allen and Bobby Steed officiating. Music will be arranged by Marylin Roland. Pallbearers serving will include Carey McEntire, Josh McEntire, Tyler McEntire, Taylor Boles, Brian Johnston and Geoffery Fletcher. Interment will follow the service in the Chandler Cemetery, The family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Friday, between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm.
