Ruth Nesbitt Bailey

Mrs. Ruth Nesbitt Bailey, age 84 of 1656 Roland Hayes Parkway, Calhoun, died Tuesday morning, September 16, 2008 in Floyd Medical Center in Rome.

She was born in Gordon County on December 25th, 1923, daughter of the late Henry Clay Nesbitt and Mary Alice Speers Nesbitt. Mrs. Bailey was a member of Oostanaula Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School for many years, and served as director of Training Union and in other areas of ministry at her church as well. Mrs. Bailey was a volunteer with the Blewer Memorial Food Bank, Cherokee Nursing Home and Hospice.

Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her parents and by six brothers; Jack Nesbitt, Melvin Nesbitt, Mike Nesbitt, Bill Nesbitt, Henry Clay Nesbitt III, and John Nesbitt; and by two sisters, Maggie Nesbitt Holbrook and Mary Kathryn Nesbitt Bohannon.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by her husband, T.J. (Dude) Bailey of Calhoun; one daughter, Sandra Bailey Falls and her husband L.C. of Calhoun; one son, Rodney Bailey and his wife Joan of Calhoun; two grandchildren, Shireen Howard and Jason Walden, both of Calhoun; and two great grandchildren, Trevor Howard and Danae Howard, both of Calhoun. One sister; Mrs. Shirley Maxine Nesbitt Dutton and her husband Ted of Calhoun, along with a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Nesbitt Bailey will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 PM from Oostanaula Baptist Church, with Rev. Rick Langston officiating. Music will be arranged by Judy Mitchell. Interment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Pallbearers serving will include Jeff Nesbitt, Danny Nesbitt, Henry Nesbitt, David Nesbitt, Steve Nesbitt, Tommy Blalock and Jerry Burns.

The family will receive friends at Oostanaula Baptist Church Wednesday evening between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm.
