Mrs. Sara Joyce Ray, age 78 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, March 10, 2008 at Gordon Hospital, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Ray was born on August 25, 1929 in Gordon County, daughter of the late Hughdon Black and Nettie Mae Gibson Black. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Donna June King, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sugar Valley.

Mrs. Ray is survived by her husband, Ike (Pete) Ray, to whom she was married for 50 years; one son, Johnny Ballew of Calhoun; one sister, Barbara Regan of McDonough; and one brother, Tony Black of Gillette, Wyoming. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sara Joyce Ray will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 pm, from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Quarles and Rev. M.L. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow the service at Chandler Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Tuesday evening during the hours of 4:00pm until 9:00pm.
