Sarah Hnat

Mrs. Sarah Joyce Hnat, age 76 of Calhoun, formerly of the Cayman Islands, died Friday, August 12, 2011 at her residence following a brief illness.

Mrs. Hnat was born on July 16, 1935 in Gordon County, daughter of the late Hugh and Nellie McDougle Smith. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Emil George Hnat, a brother, Ralph Smith, and five sisters, Bernice Fuller, Alene Moore, Virginia Keller, Betty Carver and Lois Conaway.



She was in the real estate profession and her hobbies included reading, gardening, traveling, cooking and sailing in the islands. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hnat is survived by a daughter, Vickie Dunker of New York; three sisters, Rosa Smith and Georgie Meadows, both of Calhoun, and Willie Moore of Norfolk, VA; a brother, Robert Smith of Calhoun; and a granddaughter, Brittany Dunker of Florida. Aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Joyce Hnat will be conducted Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 3:30 pm from the Union Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Crawford Greeson and Rev. Brent Smith officiating. Pallbearers serving will include Jamie Rickett, Jason Meadows, Cecil Conway, James Pasley, Dennis Thomas and Robert Smith. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home Sunday at 2:30 pm. Interment will follow the service in the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday after 6:00 pm.
