Mrs. Sarah Willie "Bill" Stanley, age 91, of Gordon County died at home Thursday, October 9, 2014. She was born in Gordon County on January 30, 1923, daughter of the late Willie Claude Smith and Vola Etner Hall Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Matthew Stanley; two sons, Tommy Stanley and Larry Stanley; a son-in-law, Richard Dale Weaver; grandsons, Vernon and Phillip B. Weaver; three sisters, Nannie Mae "Jim" Roe, Frances "Bob" Oliver, and Betty Parker; and three brothers, Rex Smith, Frank "Flooky" Smith, and Robert "Baldy" Smith.
Miss Willie retired from Crown Crafts Inc. She lived the greater part of her life in Gordon County. She was a long time member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was very involved in missions, mission education, bible study, and was a member of the Willie Stanley Women Mission group. Miss Willie was a volunteer at the Blewer Food Bank for twenty-three years, where she ministered to many. She loved her Lord, church, family, friends, and flowers.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sherri (Weaver) and Gary Hill; two daughter-in-laws, Linda Stanley and Sandy Stanley; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Jr. and Lynda Stanley, Nena, Ralph Atnas and Pam Stanley, Kaitlyn and Bradley, Jamie and Mike Bagley, Jordan and Reed, Wendy Justice, Nathanael, Glenn and Tracy Stanley, Ashton and Saidi, Chance and Helen, Alexis and Jarod, Jason Weaver, Callie, Phillip and Heather Weaver, Jenica and Jacoby, Kevin Weaver, and Dylan Hill; a "sister" of 53 years, Wynene Bowen; and a special niece and granddaughter, Alfie Pierce and Misty Clements.
A memorial service for Mrs. Sarah Willie "Bill" Stanley will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 1:00 PM from Antioch Baptist Church, with Dr. Larry Hibberts, Dr. William Roberts, and Ralph Stanley officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in Crane Eater Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 12:00 PM until the service hour of 1:00 PM.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and cans of soup and peanut butter be brought to the memorial service at the church on Wednesday in Honor of Miss Willies service, or you may make donations to Blewer Memorial Food Bank, 373 Morrow Rd SE, Calhoun, GA 30701.
