Mrs. Shirley Wooten Poole, age 67 of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Gordon Hospital following several years of declining health. She was born in Wayne County, West Virginia on July 25, 1941, daughter of the late Ancil Clay and Tennie Wooten Church. Mrs. Poole attended Maple Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Clay.
Survivors include two daughters, Theresa Gravitt and Kym Johnston; a son, Keith Ray, all of Calhoun; sisters, Geralene Huffman of Ohio, and Doris Wilson of West Virginia; brothers, Robert Clay, Roger Clay, and Henry Clay, all of West Virginia; and three grandchildren, Matthew Gravitt, Ashley Gravitt, and Mia Lane. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Wooten Poole will be conducted Monday, August 25 at 11:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Keith Ray officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Matthew Gravitt, Neal Barwick, Rick O'Mahony, Tom Huffman, Derrick Pinkerman, Jerry Poole, and Wes Ruff. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home Monday at 10:15am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm.
