Obituary
Mr. Sidney Allen Stokes, 61, of Calhoun, died Tuesday March 9, 2021 at Emory Healthcare in Decatur, Georgia after an extended illness.
Sidney was born in Dalton, Georgia on November 13, 1959, son of the late James Edward Stokes, Sr. and Mattie Jean Campbell Stokes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Jean Lathem and a brother, Tommy Eugene Stokes. Sidney was a graduate of Calhoun High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed by R and R Transportation as a Truck Driver. One of his passions was Civil War History and participating in Civil War re-enactments. He was loved by children and family.
Survivors include his daughters, Sabrina Gail Hester (Travis), Amber Nicole Hale (Pattrick); grandchildren, Mackenzie Stokes, Trinton Stokes, Camden Hale and Cheston Hale; sisters; Marlene (Bill) Plancon, Charlotte (Eddie) Phipps; brothers, Rev. Larry (Carolyn) Wells, Gary (Sandra) Wells, James Jr, (Pam) Stokes and David (Jan) Stokes; aunt, Margaret (Earnest) Cline, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Sidney Allen Stokes will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM from Bethesda Baptist Church with Rev. Wesley Hunt and Rev. Fred McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery with Rev. Keely Hasty in charge of the graveside service. Nephews will serve as pallbearers and his brother's will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Saturday, March 13th between the hours of 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
The Stokes family along with the staff of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home remind anyone in attendance to keep in mind the current guidelines and restrictions set forth by the CDC as it pertains to social gatherings, including social distancing, gathering limits, and face masks.
