Steve Southern

Mr. Steve Southern, age 51 of Calhoun, passed away Thursday morning, March 5, 2009 at Gordon Hospital following a brief illness.

Mr. Southern was born on September 15, 1957 in Tennessee, son of Marie Southern and the late Billy Southern. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeff Stansell and by a brother, Danny Lee Southern. During his lifetime he was employed by the Durkan Corporation as a printer operator. Mr. Southern was a member of Haven of Rest Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Sandra Faye Robinson Southern, to whom he was married for 21 years; children, Luke Southern, LuAnne Southern, Dewayne and Sherri Stansell, Donnie and Stephanie Sanchez, and April and Danny Hightower; mother, Marie Southern; and a daughter-in-law, Tammy Stansell. Two sisters, Gayla Hicks and Susanne Cook; fourteen grandchildren; one great grandchild, and nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Steve Southern will be conducted Saturday at 2:00pm from the Haven of Rest Baptist Church, with Dr. Jason Fuller and Brother Leamon Smith officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Gordon Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Max (Bud) Fuller conducting the committal service. Pallbearers serving will include DeWayne Stansell, Bradley Bennett, Dustin Stansell, Matthew Lewis, Micheal Lewis, Cody House, Christopher House, and Jeremy Stansell. Mr. Southern will lie in state at the Haven of Rest Baptist Church Friday evening, where the family will receive friends during the hours of 6:00pm and 10:00pm.
