Thomas B. Payne Sr

Mr. Thomas B. Payne, Sr., age 80 of Calhoun, GA passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Limestone, TN on June 6, 1928, son of the late Ralph and Hettie Loven Payne. Mr. Payne was a veteran, having served his country in the US Army. He was retired from the railroad industry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel E. "Bud" Payne.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Anne Sorel Payne; sons, Thomas B. Payne, Jr. of Calhoun, and James B. Payne of Jackson, NJ; daughters, Debbie Ducker of Gate City, VA, Patricia Hensley of Greenville, TN, Sandy Holland of Calhoun, GA, Hillary Balch of Gastonia, NC, Leslie Payne of Goodwater, AL, and Lisa Anderson of Johnson City, TN. A sister, Sarah N. Payne of Greeneville, TN, eighteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Thomas B. Payne, Sr. will be conducted Tuesday, July 15 at 9:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Chaplain Dave Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Cemetery in Washington College, TN. "My 8 kids" will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include Arnold Ducker, Charles Anderson, David Hensley, Robert Holland, Donnie Lundy, Daniel Lundy, Andrew Huff, Hollis Huff, Michael Payne, T.J. Balch, Chris Balch, Terri Holland, Tonya "Alf" Blalock, and Jason Everts. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday between the hours of 4:00pm and 8:00pm.
